The statement enjoined commuters coming to Bonny from Finima to divert through Eagle Forest to access Willbros Road, while those from Hospital Road should divert through Walter Finiapiri Bypass, which is before Akiama Junction, to access Willbros Road.

The statement clarified that “although the ongoing construction is for the collective good of the LGA, the local government authority regrets all inconveniences posed and calls for the understanding of commuters since the blockage will only last for a short time”.

Julius Berger Plc returned to site months ago to resume work on the road project as it hurries to meet up with the agreed timeline for its completion with the project owner, the Federal Government of Nigeria, and project sponsor, the Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas Limited.

When completed, the road will open Bonny Island to the upland axis of Rivers State as well as other parts of Nigeria, create an alternative means of transport from the water transport which is the only option for residents and visitors to the area.
