In continuance of his consultative engagements with critical stakeholders in the polity, the Chairman of Bonny Local Government Area, Abinye Pepple, has met with the Commanding Officer of 146 Battalion Nigerian Army, Lt. Col. Oyemade Oyewumi, and his leadership team.
A statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Wisdom Chapp-Jumbo disclosed that the meeting, which held on Wednesday, October 29, 2025 at the Farouk Yahaya Camp, home of the 146 Battalion, had in attendance the Leader of the Bonny Legislative Assembly, Kingsley Jumbo, and Secretary to the Bonny Local Government, Tamunotonye Jumbo, amongst other officials.

Speaking as the Chief Security Officer of the LGA, Pepple issued a strong warning to criminal elements and their sponsors, declaring that his administration will not tolerate any attempt to undermine the peace and security of the area.
He commended the gallant officers of the 146 Battalion for their dedication to protecting lives and property across the LGA, as well as the Nigerian Army for sustaining security in the area, reaffirming his administration’s full support for all security agencies working tirelessly to maintain order.
“Let me be clear – no one will be allowed to take Bonny backward. We will resist, with every lawful means, any attempt to destabilize the peace we have worked so hard to build. Our waterways, our communities, and our people must remain secure.”
He stressed that the Bonny Local Government Council, in collaboration with security agencies, will be on high alert to prevent any form of criminal activity or disruption of peace, given the imminent opening of the Bodo-Bonny Road that is expected to increase human and vehicular movement into the area, especially, during the festive season.

The Bonny LGA Chairman expressed satisfaction with the Army’s performance and community impact efforts, emphasizing that his administration will maintain close collaboration with the military and other security agencies to safeguard the road and the lives of all users, while informing him of a Town Hall Meeting scheduled for November 15, 2025, to discuss the temporary opening of the Bonny–Bodo Road.
“The security agencies are working, and Bonny is safer for it. My administration will continue to stand with them and add value to their efforts. We are determined to keep Bonny peaceful, secure, and progressive,” he stated.
“We will not compromise on security. Anyone planning to disrupt the peace in Bonny will face the full weight of the law.”
In his remarks, the Commanding Officer of the 146 Battalion Nigerian Army, Lt. Col. Oyemade Oyewumi, lauded the Chairman’s proactive stance on security and highlighted some of the Battalion’s key achievements.

These feats by the Battalion, according to him, include the interception of illegal oil bunkerers, arrests of sea pirates, and regular gunboat patrols that have ensured safety across Bonny waterways.
He also revealed that the deployment of drone technology has strengthened their intelligence-gathering capacity, leading to more efficient surveillance and the arrest of suspects, all of whom have been handed over to the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) for prosecution.
Beyond security operations, Lt. Col. Oyewumi listed several community impact initiatives by the Battalion, including the donation of wheelchairs to the Finima Healthcare Centre, distribution of 5,500 exercise books and 400 school bags to students, and other humanitarian interventions.
