The Chairman of Bonny Local Government Area, Abinye Pepple has aligned with Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, on his stance against the balkanization of Bonny Kingdom, declaring that “we have one Kingdom under one King”.

Pepple made this declaration on Saturday, November 1, 2025 when he led officials of his administration on a courtesy visit to the Bonny Chiefs Council at the King Perekule Palace, Bonny, Rivers State.

Fubara had on Wednesday, January 25, 2023 during the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) campaign for the 2023 general elections in Bonny LGA told a mammoth crowd at the Local Government Industrial Unit field that when elected governor, he would not be part of any attempt to balkanize Bonny Kingdom.

“This is my home, many of you don’t know. I am from Greens, Dublin Green family to be precise. I am sure you will vote for me, as your brother. When elected and I become Governor, I will not be part of any attempt to balkanize Bonny Kingdom.”

Addressing the Chiefs, the Bonny LGA Chairman stated unequivocally that “Bonny remains one united Kingdom under His Majesty, King Edward Asimini William Dappa Pepple III, CON, JP, DSSRS, Edward I, Perekule XI, the Amanyanabo and Natural Ruler of the Ancient Grand Bonny Kingdom”.

This assertion effectively distances the Bonny Local Government under his watch from alleged secessionist tendencies by a section of Finima Community that has in recent times been making deft moves to achieve a separate kingdom for Finima.

The alleged self-determination quest has led to unfortunate incidents where several residents of Finima Community have been assaulted, maimed and almost lost their lives, aside a litany of ongoing litigations.

But for the proactive initiatives of the current administration at the Bonny Local Government, a very recent situation would have degenerated into an internecine communal crisis.

Bonny Kingdom made up of 34 chieftaincy houses spread across over 100 communities with a traditional governance structure headed by the Amanyanabo-in-Council, who is assisted by the 34 country chiefs as heads their respective chieftaincy houses has remained peaceful until this recent secessionist agenda.
