SCD JV Social Impact Interventions, Promotion of Road Safety Awareness; Way to Go
The recent social impact initiatives by the project implementors for the Train 7 project of the Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas Limited, the SCD JV (Saipem, Chiyoda and Daewoo Joint Venture) seems to be the way to go for other firms doing business in Bonny Island, Rivers State.
The Joint Venture said the programmes are in reciprocity of the welcoming hospitality and ambient atmosphere it has enjoyed doing business in Bonny Island.
The three-day impactful community outreach programme, which is a T7 SCD JV/NLNG initiative, is aimed at fostering educational support and promoting road safety awareness.
The programmes, which held in Bonny and Finima, include school visitations where educational materials were donated to pupils and students of various schools; and road safety awareness programme in partnership with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).
Some of the SCD JV officials who spoke to the students said the intervention is focused on Education; exemplified with donations of school bags and essential learning materials to students in Finima and Bonny.
He said the initiative aims at supporting education by ensuring students have the tools needed for academic success was one of the ways the SCD JV is demonstrating intentionality in preparing the youths for the future.
A significant number of students and parents, who turned out for the event, expressed gratitude for the donations, stressing that it would enhance access to educational resources for children in the community, just as the intervention received positive responses from community leaders and the school authorities.
An aspect of the programme was a road safety campaign which held in Finima Community with focus on road safety awareness.
According to the SCD JV, the campaign sought to educate the community on the importance of safe driving practices, pedestrian safety, and road regulations with awareness creation and orientation workshops held in Finima and Bonny.
The resource person for the campaign, Chris Onwubiko, who is also the Public Relations Officer of the FRSC Bonny Unit Command, engaged road users, especially, commercial drivers and motorcycle riders, popularly known as Okada, with practical demonstrations and educational talks.
Safety materials such as reflective stickers and pamphlets were distributed to the attendees just as the participants expressed renewed commitments to safe road practices, asserting that the now have increased awareness of road safety measures as they commute within Bonny Island, pledging to adhere to safety guidelines.
To the SCD JV, Bonny Kingdom, which has provided it and its contractors an ambient and supportive environment for its business to thrive, deserves to be encouraged via strategic engagements and social impact initiatives.
