Residents of Abuja are singing the praises of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, for his aggressive urbanization drive, particularly the rehabilitation and construction of roads across the city.

In interviews with Kristina Reports, several locals expressed gratitude for the improvements, saying the new roads have enhanced mobility, reduced travel time, and boosted businesses.

At Garki Junction, commercial driver Sani Mohammed shared his excitement: “Before, the potholes on this road used to damage my car’s suspension every few months”.

“Now, I can drive smoothly. Wike is really working. Abuja is beginning to look like the capital city we deserve.”

Another resident, Loveth Onah, who runs a small supermarket in Kubwa, highlighted how the new roads have positively impacted her business.

“Before, customers complained about the dust and bad roads leading to my shop. But since they fixed the road, more people now stop by, and my sales have increased. We just hope this momentum continues,” she said.

Construction workers at a site near Apo also acknowledged the progress. Emmanuel Edet, a mechanic, noted that better roads have helped their supply chain.

“Getting materials from one location to another used to be a struggle, especially during the rainy season. With these new roads, our trucks move faster, and work is progressing quicker than before.”

However, some residents hope the development spreads to more neglected areas. In Nyanya, Chinedu Okafor expressed optimism but urged the minister to focus on satellite towns.

“Wike is doing well, but he should also look at places like Nyanya and Mararaba. The roads here are still terrible, and we also need development.”

Wike has repeatedly assured residents that urban renewal remains a top priority, with several road projects in progress across the city.

As Abuja’s skyline transforms, residents remain hopeful that the current pace of development will be sustained.
