The Vice Presidential Candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Rotimi Amaechi, was in Okrika on Saturday, October 10, 2026 to witness the final traditional rites (Okuru Kaka) of the party’s deputy governorship candidate in Rivers State, David m Okumgba.
Okumgba, who hails from Okrika Local Government Area, was recently announced by the ADC as running mate to its governorship candidate, Hon. Gabriel Baritulem Pidomson, for the 2027 election.

The rites, which held in Okrika Town, attracted chiefs, elders, family members and political associates from across Wakirike.
Amaechi, who is a former Governor of Rivers State and former Minister of Transportation, was received by leaders of the ADC in the area and members of the Okumgba family.
Speaking at the event, Amaechi described Okumgba as a loyal party man and an experienced administrator whose nomination reflects the ADC’s commitment to inclusive leadership.
He said Okumgba’s experience as former South-South Zonal Secretary and Zonal Publicity Secretary of a political party, as well as his grassroots knowledge of Rivers politics, makes him a suitable deputy.
According to the ADC State Chairman, Dr. Chukwudi Dimgba, who announced Okumgba’s nomination in Port Harcourt, the choice of the Okrika-born politician was based on his organisational capacity, political experience and understanding of the state.
He said the Pidomson-Okumgba ticket represents good governance, accountability and equal opportunities.
The traditional rites mark Okumgba’s final formal introduction and blessing by his kinsmen before full commencement of campaigns for the 2027 governorship election.
Party stalwarts at the ceremony said the presence of Amaechi, the party’s national vice presidential candidate, was to show solidarity and to reassure the Wakirike people that they remain central to the ADC’s plans in Rivers State.

Okumgba, in his remarks, thanked the chiefs and people of Okrika for their blessings and pledged to be a worthy ambassador of the community.
He called on youths and stakeholders in the LGA to rally behind the ADC to deliver victory in the forthcoming general elections.
