Bella Okagbue has served Segun Olusemo, popularly known as Sheggz, with a pre-action notice over alleged breach of promise to marry, domestic abuse and outstanding loans.
The latest development was reported on Saturday, August 29, 2026, following weeks of public exchanges and legal threats between the former couple.
Bella and Sheggz began their relationship after meeting during the 2022 Big Brother Naija Level Up season and continued dating after leaving the reality show.
Their relationship reportedly lasted about four years before Sheggz disclosed that it ended in January 2026.
The latest pre-action notice reportedly demands repayment of £10,166 and ₦19.826 million, alongside claims connected to the alleged marriage promise and abuse.
Bella’s lawyers alleged that Sheggz repeatedly promised to marry their client through television appearances, social media, in the presence of family and friends, and privately.
The lawyers further alleged that the promises began when the pair met in 2022 and continued until 2026, while accusing Sheggz of allegedly making the promises through deceit and misrepresentation to induce financial benefits from Bella.
According to the legal claims, Bella and Sheggz also cohabited in the United Kingdom, where her lawyers said she invested financially and emotionally in the relationship.
The lawyers alleged that the failure to fulfil the alleged promise caused Bella stigma, reputational damage, emotional distress and psychological harm.
They cited the Supreme Court decision in Ezeanah v Atta (2004) 7 NWLR (Pt. 873) 468 in support of the legal position surrounding breach of promise to marry.
Bella’s lawyers also accused Sheggz of subjecting their client to alleged physical and emotional harm during the relationship.
The allegations reportedly include claims that Bella’s movement was restricted and that she experienced repeated physical and emotional abuse.
The legal team reportedly demanded that Sheggz desist from unwanted contact with Bella, including unsolicited calls and messages that could be perceived as threatening or intimidating.
The lawyers further indicated that Bella was prepared to petition the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency and pursue appropriate civil proceedings over the alleged abuse, injuries and damages.
The latest action follows a separate legal notice issued against Bella by Sheggz’s lawyers on Friday, August 21, 2026.
That notice reportedly accused Bella of making defamatory statements about Sheggz and members of his family and demanded that she stop making the statements, remove disputed content, retract them and apologise.
Bella’s lawyers responded on Monday, August 24, 2026, describing the allegations contained in the notice as “spurious and baseless.”
They rejected the demand for a retraction and apology while maintaining that Bella’s public comments reflected her experiences and feelings concerning the relationship.
Her lawyers also alleged that Sheggz obtained several loans from Bella under false pretences and said they possessed evidence to support the allegation.
The financial allegations have featured prominently in the dispute, with an earlier claim putting an alleged debt at ₦11 million before the latest reported demand of £10,166 and ₦19.826 million.
Sheggz has denied allegations of domestic abuse and infidelity and previously said the relationship ended because of unresolved “issues of trust and respect.”
He also said he had purchased an engagement ring because he believed the relationship would eventually lead to marriage.
Bella had earlier rejected the suggestion that her desire for marriage amounted to desperation, saying, “Wanting marriage with someone you love is not desperation.”
“Knowing when not to marry them is discernment.”
The competing accounts have now moved beyond social media exchanges into a formal pre-litigation process.
However, the pre-action notice does not amount to a court judgment and the allegations contained in it have not been established by a court.
There is currently no reported court finding establishing that Sheggz committed domestic abuse, breached a legally enforceable promise to marry Bella or owes the amounts contained in the latest notice.
Similarly, the allegations of defamation made against Bella have not been determined by a court.
The dispute could proceed to formal litigation if the parties fail to resolve the issues raised in the legal notices.
For now, both sides maintain opposing accounts of the relationship, its financial arrangements and the circumstances surrounding its collapse.
