BKDC Holds Stakeholders Meeting on Road Expansion Project; Promises World-Class Infrastructure

The Bonny Kingdom Development Committee (BKDC) says the road from the gate of the Bonny Oil and Gas Terminal (BOGT) to Coal Beach including the spur from Amaomu Junction to the King Perekule Palace when completed will be a world class modern infrastructure that will change the landscape and aesthetics of the Bonny skyline.

Chairman of BKDC, Amaopusenibo Amairigha Hart said this on Tuesday, December 2, 2025 during a One-Day Stakeholders Meeting on the Bonny Road Expansion Project at the Ibani-Se Hall, Bonny in Rivers State.

He stated that upon completion, the road to have modern facilities such as a comprehensive drainage system to combat perennial flooding, pedestrian walkways, street lights for improved safety and aesthetics, and traffic lights at every intersection to control traffic flow.

The project, which is corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative associated with the Train 7 project of the Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas Limited (NLNG), has Evomec Global Services Limited (EGSL) as the approved vendor to handle the construction of the road.

The BKDC Chairman further explained that the project aims to improve the evacuation of traffic and enhance the aesthetic beauty of the island, making commuting easier for residents.

He commended owners of impacted properties along the right of way of the project for their sacrifices towards supporting the development of Bonny Kingdom, stressing that such sense of patriotism will not be forgotten.

He informed that the meeting was convened by the committee to provide a platform to discuss teething issues around the road project, and for the contractor to also explain details of project to all stakeholders.

On his part, the Chairman of Bonny LGA, Amasenibo Abinye Pepple promised the support of his administration to the road project, announcing the approval of a tax rebate for the project implementer, Evomec Global Services Limited, to facilitate the smooth execution of the 2.7 km Bonny Road Expansion Project.

He commended the Amanyanabo and Natural Ruler of Bonny Kingdom, His Majesty, King Edward Asimini William Dappa Pepple III, Edward I, CON, DSSRS, JP, Perekule XI, whose leadership, he said continues to strengthen development partnerships across the LGA.

He cautioned against any form of disruptions on the project, stating that no individual, regardless of status, would be allowed to sabotage the progress of the road expansion, emphasizing that the development of the LGA remains a shared responsibility and a central priority of his administration.

Speaking, the General Manager of Evomec Global Services Limited, Toye Fadare announced that his company has decided to muster relevant resources to reduce the expected delivery time of the project from 18 to 9 months.

He informed that related activities such as phased relocation of utilities, refurbishment of faulty roads to provide alternative traffic routes around town, as well as ongoing situational analysis of the whole stretch of the project site were already ongoing.

While thanking the BKDC, NLNG and other stakeholders for their support, Fadare disclosed that because some aspects of the road will be closed to traffic, bypasses will be created at strategic points to ease commuting while the project is going on.

The 2.7 kilometer road project is expected to be fully completed and opened to traffic by December 2026.

In attendance were the Vice Chairman, Bonny LGA, Ibinyefagha Alabere, Councillors, Secretary to the Bonny Local Government, Warisenibo Tamunotonye Jumbo, members of the Bonny Chiefs Council, representatives of security agencies, Woman Leader of Bonny Kingdom, Amaopuorubo Helen Pepple, and Secretary, Dr Victor Jumbo, and members of the BKDC.

Others were the Secretary to the King Perekule Palace, Amaopusenibo Festus Pepple, Chairman, Ijaw National Congress (INC), Ibani Clan, Sowari Hart, Curate/Archdeacon-in-Residence, St. Stephen’s Cathedral, Bonny, Venerable Peter Blu-Attoni, women groups, youth bodies, civil society, members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), and representatives of multinationals, amongst others stakeholders.
