Bodo-Bonny Road: Stakeholders Propose Viable Fares, Security, Subsidized Transit Between Bonny, Port Harcourt

Stakeholders have proposed measures to ensure safe and conducive commuting the during the temporary opening of the Bodo-Bonny Road in December 2025 as well as after its commissioning in 2026.
These propositions, which were made on Saturday, November 15, 2025 at a Townhall Meeting organized by the Bonny Local Government, include necessary measures in the short, medium and long term for safe utilization of the road.





The stakeholders include the Bonny Chiefs Council (BCC), Bonny Kingdom Development Committee (BKDC), Bonny Kingdom Titled Citizens Assembly (TCA), Bonny Kingdom Ogbobiri Asawo, Bonny Women Forum (BWF), Bonny Youth Federation (BYF); Ijaw National Congress (INC), Bonny Clan, and non-indigenous groups.
Among the propositions were transport fares of between N2,000 and N3,000; security plan to cover both the Bonny and Gokana axis; profiling of commercial transport vehicles transiting Bonny and other destinations; mobile network signal along the stretch of the road; among others.
BCC was represented by its Vice Chairman, Se-Aabo Haniel Jack-Wilson Pepple; BKDC by its member, Samuel Hart; TCA by its Vice President, Fred Pepple; Ogbobiri Asawo by its Chairman, Eugene Jumbo; BWF and BYF by their Leaders, Helen Pepple and Anthony Banigo, while INC was represented by its Chairman, Sowari Hart.




They x-rayed the challenges likely to emerge once the road is opened in December 2025 as well as after its commissioning in first quarter of 2026, noting that there needs to be proactive plans to assuage them as they emerge.
The various speakers highlighted the fact that lives and properties of citizens were at stake once the road is opened, just as the demographics of Bonny LGA will assume new dimensions, urging a unanimous approach to addressing these emerging issues as they will affect everyone.
In his speech, the Chairman of Bonny LGA, Abinye Pepple promised holistic responses to the various issues raised while urging residents and visitors to Bonny to cooperate with the authorities in ensuring that both the ensuing Yuletide season and the period after that are safe and conducive for all.
