A 300 level student of Commercial and Industrial Law, Gracewealth Ibitoru Hart has emerged Vice President of the Student Union Government (SUG) of the Rivers State University (RSU), Nkpolu Oroworukwo, Port Harcourt in Rivers State.
Hart is the first indigene of Bonny Kingdom in Rivers State, Nigeria, to become RSU’s SUG Vice President in the election which saw a remarkable display of student participation and enthusiasm.
She polled 2,537 votes to defeat her opponent, Saatah Domalobari Deleh, who scored 2,412 votes to clinch the position during the election on Friday, September 6, 2024 in the institution’s campus in Port Harcourt.
In a virtual chat with Kristina Reports, Hart expressed her joy over the victory, asserting that it has been her dream to make impact in lives of people around her and opportunity has presented itself.
The newly elected Vice President revealed that she has the passion to lead and that was what informed her decision to vie for the first position, not regarding the difficulty encountered in course of the journey.
“And the fact that I want to make impact in the lives of everybody that I come in contact with using this opportunity that God has given me.”
“Again they said it was going to be difficult for me to aspire for this position if I also don’t compromise my standard even if I knew I was competent for it but yet I didn’t relent and I also didn’t give it an option to compromise and start sleeping around with men just to get financial support.”
Hart added that she believes that everybody’s expecting so much from her and she intends to achieve everything.
“I believe the people are expecting so much for me. Among my primary things I want to achieve are inclusive decision making, Diverse Representation, improvement of female aspire conference, strengthening campus welfare amongst others.”
Hart’s victory is seen as a significant achievement for the Institution’s Faculty of Law, where she is a standout student.
As the new SUG Vice President, she is expected to bring her leadership skills to the forefront and contribute positively to the student body.
