The Leader of the Bonny Legislative Council and Councillor representing Ward 10, Kingsley Jumbo, has reaffirmed his commitment to the welfare of elderly residents in the ward with the disbursement of stipends for the months of July and August.
The intervention, implemented under the Ward 10 Elderlies Monthly Stipend Initiative, provides a monthly stipend of ₦150,000 to selected elderly beneficiaries from each of the 15 communities that make up the ward.
The initiative, according to Jumbo, is designed to provide direct welfare support to elderly citizens who have contributed significantly to the development of their communities and the wider Bonny Kingdom.
While reaffirming his commitment to the programme, the Legislative Leader assured beneficiaries that the monthly intervention would continue, stressing that the elderly remained an important constituency deserving of sustained attention and support.
Jumbo said his vision for Ward 10 extended beyond the existing elderly welfare programme, revealing plans to introduce additional people-oriented initiatives, particularly in the areas of elderly welfare and youth empowerment.
He said the proposed programmes would focus on improving livelihoods, creating opportunities and strengthening economic participation among residents across the ward.
The councillor also appealed to the people of Ward 10 to continue to pray for and support the administration of the Chairman of Bonny Local Government Area, AbinyePepple, in the interest of the continued development of Bonny LGA.
Beneficiaries and their representatives expressed appreciation for the intervention, describing it as a demonstration of compassionate and people-centred leadership.
They said the financial support had provided relief to elderly residents, while also giving them a sense of reassurance, dignity and renewed hope that their contributions to their communities had not been forgotten.
According to the beneficiaries, the consistent monthly intervention represents a significant welfare initiative for elderly citizens within their communities, particularly because it is being facilitated at the ward level by an elected councillor.
The presentation of the stipends was undertaken on behalf of the Legislative Leader by the PDP Ward 10 Secretary, Abbey Ibibo, and the APC Ward 10 Secretary, Glory Goodness Umokoro.
Some of the nominated beneficiaries, were represented by members of their families during the presentation.
For July, the beneficiaries were Eremina William Hart (Iloma), Mina Promise Jumbo (Georgikiri), Benson Robert Ebirien (Owupiri), Douglas Nathan Onin Awaji (Fuakpa), Matilda Ataijeng (Otokolomabie), Helen N. Jumbo (Burukiri), Gloria David Omuso (Minima), Dojubere Jumbo (Aru-gbanama), Sobima Benneth Jumbo (Polokiri), Jumbo Matilda Atibi (Ayaminima), Florence Nne Jack Wilson Pepple (Oloma), Gift John Jumbo (Sangama), Stella Ibienebo Jumbo (Orupiri), Dabota Abbey (Epelema), and Loveday Maxwell Ogolikana (Alasakiri).
The August beneficiaries were Mathew Agnes (Otokolomabie), Salome Omoni (Georgikiri), Ebilanyefa Oruwari Geofrey (Owupiri), Herbert Geoffrey Geoffrey (Fuakpa), Comfort Jonathan Jumbo (Burukiri), Wisdom D.F.D. Jumbo (Orupiri), Ethel Nelson John Jumbo (Sangama), Hart Patience Adaobu (Ayaminima), Bridget Lazarus Jumbo (Polokiri), Grace Asis Jumbo (Aru-gbanama), Grace Abbey (Minima), Doris D. Hart (Iloma), Blessing Festus Abbey (Epelema), and Amos Michael Kakpor (Alasakiri).
The initiative underscores the Legislative Leader’s stated commitment to using his office to provide direct interventions targeted at vulnerable groups while pursuing broader programmes aimed at improving the socio-economic wellbeing of residents of Ward 10.
