Bonny LG Chairman Commissions Reconstructed Finima Road, Commends NLNG, Evomec, Sues for More Collaboration by IOCs
The New Finima Road is now open to commuters after being commissioned by the Chairman of Bonny Local Government Area, Anengi Claude-Wilcox, who commended the NLNG for undertaking its upgrade and expansion.
Claude-Wilcox commissioned the road and gave the commendation on Tuesday, November 26, 2024 at Finima Roundabout in Bonny LGA of Rivers State.
Represented by the Secretary to the Bonny Local Government, John Gabriel-Pepple, stated this today, the Bonny LGA Chief Executive initially observed the absence of drainages, bus stops along the road, but was satisfied with the explanation provided by the project team. Drainages are in between the kebs and storm water is channeled accordingly and busstops are only at Agaja Market
She also pointed out that the road should have been slightly expanded more than its previous status in view of the impending completion of the Bonny/Bodo Road project and its attendant beehive of vehicular traffic.
She, however, thanked the project sponsors for the intervention in the first place while applauding the contracting firm, Evomec Global Services Limited (EGSL) for delivering the job in record time.
The Bonny LGA Chairman also expressed her optimism for greater collaboration with the international oil and gas companies (IOCs) for the delivery of other corporate social responsibility (CSR) interventions in the best interest of the LGA.
Earlier, NLNG’s General Manager, Production, Nnamdi Anowi had expressed his delight with the timely delivery, quality and sustainability of the project, commending the contractor, Evomec Global Services Limited for adherence with agreed specifications, expressing the hope that the road will serve the interest of Bonny people.
He stated that the project is one of NLNG’s Social Investment and CSR interventions aimed at making the lives of residents of Bonny Island better, stressing that infrastructural development of communities around its operational areas was a key focus of its corporate strategy.
Also speaking, NLNG’s General Manager, Technical Services, Ekeinde Ohiwerei expressed delight in the completion of the project, noting that in delivering the project NLNG has demonstrated goodwill towards the people of Bonny Kingdom.
Speaking, the Chairman of Finima Development Committee (FDC), Sunny Jack-Brown, commended the NLNG for maximizing the land donated for the project by Finima Community, disclosing that there has been no litigation relating to the land or the project, just as no compensation was paid.
He lauded both the project sponsor, NLNG, and project implementer, Evomec for “good job done”, assuring that the second phase of the project would also go without any hitches as Finima Community guarantees a peaceful atmosphere and enabling environment for its actualization.
In his speech, NLNG’s Manager, Community Relations and Sustainable Development, Charles Epelle expressed delight at the speed and quality of the construction work done, noting that Evomec has endeared itself to its stakeholders by the investment it made in delivering the job on time and in good quality.
He hailed the project team and other stakeholders for their respective roles in ensuring that the project was successfully implemented.
The New Finima Road was constructed to create an alternative access to Finima Community when the NLNG gas liquefaction plant was constructed years ago. However, over the years, it has become deplorable and increasingly congested as traffic increased between Bonny and Finima.
The section of the project titled “Bonny-Finima Expansion Road Project – (Package A), which was constructed by Evomec, starts from the Workers Camp Junction passes by the Agaja Market and culminates at the Finima Roundabout.
Package B of the project covers from Finima Roundabout goes all the way to Finima Community and terminates at the defunct Citibank now Coop Microfinance Bank.
