Bonny Women Are Peace Advocates – Leader Says at BWF Maiden Banquet

Woman Leader of Bonny Kingdom, Helen Jack-Wilson Pepple says the women of the kingdom are mainstreamers of peace and that has positioned Bonny to continue on the path of prosperity.

Pepple said this on Sunday, December 22, 2024 during the maiden banquet of the Bonny Women Forum in Bonny, Rivers State.

“Bonny women are not quarrelsome. We will continue to pursue peace and entrench peace in all our dealings so that the prosperity of our Kingdom will continue.”

She enjoined the women to be intentional about entrenching peace in their homes, noting that a peaceful home is the harbinger of success in various endeavours of life.

The banquet, which was part of the 2nd Annual Women Conference that began the previous day, featured presentation of awards to deserving personalities, couple games, music and dance, refreshment and light speeches.

The awards included Ibani Native Veteran Award conferred on Amaopuorubo Matilda Omoni John-Jumbo, in recognition of her contribution to the reawakening of the Ibani native customs and influencing modern women; and Girl Child Mentorship Award conferred on Dame Amaopuorubo Grace Daboyiya Ishmael Banigo, in recognition of her glass shattering accomplishments, career exploits and impactful mentorship of young women.

Others include a Merit Award for Selfless Promotion of Ibani Customary Tradition conferred on Dame Hannah Brown-Ejekwu, in recognition of her efforts in helping women to conform with Ibani traditional practices without charges. Dame Lily Adonye-Hart was also honoured with Outstanding Service Award in recognition of her remarkable services, progressive contribution and sacrificial discharge of her duties as General Secretary of Bonny Women Forum.

Some of the couples in attendance who were given opportunities to relive their love journeys and how far they have fared, thrilled the audience with inspiring tales, just as some of them engaged in the game of telling which were the favourite things in their spouses’ lives.

The evening was graced by notable personalities from various walks of life including special invitees.
