It is a big day for Bonny Main Town in Rivers State as a joint security team raid some suspected criminal hideouts in a massive clearance operation.

The operation started from about 4am on Thursday, September 11, 2025 covering the G-Unit axis of Sandfield Road and then to the forest adjacent to Coal Beach in the Nwaoju Allison area of Bonny Island.

Several arrests were made in the course of the raid just as substances suspected to be hard drugs were confiscated from the arrested suspects.

The security operatives also burnt down several shanties erected by the suspected criminal elements in the forest thus denying freedom of action and access to the area.

A top security official told Kristina Reports that the raid was based on credible intelligence gathered over time in the various locations identifying them as rendezvous points for illicit drugs peddling, rape of women and girls, aside other criminal activities.

The operation was carried out by a joint team comprising the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), Nigerian Army (NA), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).

Checks by Kristina Reports reveal that the NDLEA had flagged the area as a risk environment for the peddling of illicit drugs and working in collaboration with the Nigeria Police and other law enforcement agencies supported by the military launched the raid.

Some residents lamented that the area has degenerated into a menace as, according to them, diverse types of illicit drugs comprising cannabis, Canadian Loud, marijuana, methamphetamine (mkpurummiri), amongst others.

Speaking, the Divisional Police Officer, Bonny Division, Chijioke Anyalechi, a Chief Superintendent of Police, said with today’s raid, the supply chain of drugs peddling has be disrupted, warning the criminal elements that the long arm of the law will catch them wherever they are.
