The Bonny Youth Federation (BYF) has approved the use of its auditorium for the Ibani Language classes by the Ibani Language Development Initiative (ILDI), also known as Let’s Speak Ibani.

The BYF, in a letter dated Wednesday, April 3, 2024 and signed by its General Secretary, Omoni Sylvanus, says this was in furtherance of its partnership with the ILDI.

Executive Director of the ILDI, Herbert Pepple told Kristina Reports that “with this approval, the partnership between both organizations is fully kickstarted”.

He expressed his appreciation on behalf of the ILDI to the leadership of the Bonny Youth Federation for donating the BYF Hall for Ibani programmes and activities.

On his part, the Chairman, Board of Trustees of the Ibani Language Development Initiative, Amaopusenibo Fred Pepple described the development as “a welcome one”, saying that all stakeholders need to join forces with the ILDI to promote the proliferation of the Ibani Language.

The ILDI was established with core aim of promoting the proliferation of the Ibani Language, which is the lingua franca of the Ibani ethnic nationality, a subset of the larger Ijaw ethnic group in Nigeria.

The Ibani people are spread across Bonny and Opobo/Nkoro LGAs of Rivers State.
