Legendary wrestler and actor, John Cena has finally retired from the wrestling scene after making a shocking announcement in July, 2024.

His last match against Gunther on Saturday night, December 13, 2025 at Saturday Night’s Main Event XLII, Capital One Arena, Washington DC, ended in a loss as Cena gave up the 24 minute fight through a tap out submission.

The “You can’t See Me” coroner has had a successful 24-year career with the WWE and has had a record number of 2326 matches; 1821 total number of wins, 447 losses and 58 draws.

The 17 time world champion started his wrestling career in 1999 and has bagged numerous awards which are not included in his 26 championship titles.

Wrestling legends, and fans have taken to social media to shower praises on John Cena.

Wrestling legend, Undertaker, described Cena as one whose passion for the sports is unmatched.

“Nice job.”

“Those were the words I said to you 23 years ago when you debuted.”

“Now, on the day of your final match, I say again…nice job.”

Another Wrestling legend, Kurt Angle praised Cena’s on his X handle, hailing him for his resilience, and passion for the sport.

“I am proud to have been part of his journey, and what a ride it has been for him.”

Also, The editor of Wrestlenomics, Brandon Thurston said Cena was WWE’s most important economic force from roughly 2005 to 2015.

“He was the biggest draw in terms of pay-per-view buys, TV ratings, merchandise sales and live event attendance,”.
