Court Remands Doris Ogala Pending Bail Hearing in Chris Okafor Case

Nollywood actress Doris Ogala has been remanded in a correctional facility in Lagos pending the hearing of her bail application over alleged cyberbullying, cyberstalking and attempted extortion involving cleric Chris Okafor.

Ogala was arraigned before the Federal High Court in Lagos on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, on charges filed by the Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation and pleaded not guilty to the allegations.

Justice Akintayo Aluko ordered her remand and directed an accelerated hearing of her bail application, adjourning the matter until Friday, October 30, 2026, for the hearing.

The prosecution alleged that Ogala published intimate photographs of Okafor on social media without his consent and circulated electronic messages, videos and recordings allegedly containing false information about him.

The prosecution further alleged that she threatened to continue publishing intimate or damaging material about the cleric unless he compensated her or bought her a house.

The alleged offences were said to have occurred between September 2024 and March 2026 and to contravene Sections 24(1)(a), 24(2)(a) and 24(2)(c) of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Amendment Act, 2024.

Prosecuting counsel, Tolulope Mokolu, told the court that he had only received the defence’s bail application on Wednesday and needed time to study it and file a response.

He urged the court to remand Ogala pending further proceedings, while her defence counsel, N. C. Atulomah, opposed the request and argued that the court had the discretion to grant bail.

Atulomah also assured the court that his client would attend subsequent proceedings if released.

In his ruling, Justice Aluko held that the defence had not presented sufficient grounds to justify Ogala’s immediate release but ordered that her bail application be heard expeditiously.

The proceedings reportedly became tense after the ruling, as Ogala insisted on addressing the court despite attempts by her lawyer and others to calm the situation.

“I want to say something: a court is a commoner’s place to talk, and my boyfriend wants to weaponise the law against me, and you said I shouldn’t talk.”

She added: “What he intends to achieve is to remand me in prison, and he has got to do it now.”

“That is what he intends to achieve.”

“That prison, I’ll go.”

The actress later accused Okafor and two other clerics, Jerry Eze and Johnson Suleman, of being responsible for her remand in a statement published on her Instagram page.

“Jerry Eze, Chris Okafor and Suleman Johnson are responsible for my remand,” she wrote.

The allegations against the named individuals have not been established in court, and the reports reviewed did not indicate that the court had made any finding that they were responsible for her detention.

The legal dispute between Ogala and Okafor became public in December 2025 after a video of the cleric’s engagement to another woman circulated online.

Ogala subsequently accused Okafor of ruining her life and claimed that she had been in a relationship with him since 2017.

The controversy later escalated into legal proceedings following allegations that she shared private photographs of the cleric.

Ogala’s remand does not amount to a conviction, as she has pleaded not guilty and the case remains before the court.

The court is expected to hear her bail application on Friday, October 30, 2026.
