Monday morning marked a fresh start for Nigeria Premier Football League outfit, Lobi Stars, as former Super Eagles player and coach, Daniel Amokachi, led his first training session as the club’s new Head Coach.

Amokachi who was appointed on Sunday, October 6, 2024, following Eugene Agagbe’s exit becomes the third member of the iconic 1994 Super Eagles squad to take the reins as a coach in the 2024/2025 season. Finidi George (Rivers United FC) and Emmanuel Amuneke (Heartland FC) are the other two.

A statement by the club’s Head of Media, Uja Emmanuel, revealed that the decision to drop Agagbe was a result of his failure to meet a five-match win target, managing only one victory while losing three.

His replacement, Amokachi has had coaching spells in the Nigeria league as manager of Nasarawa United, Enyimba, and Ifeanyi Ubah. He has also spent two spells as assistant coach of Nigeria, as well as managing the national team on an interim basis from 2014 to 2015.

The Pride of Benue currently sit 17th on the league table, with only four points from five matches.
