Etinan LG Council Flags off 2024 Farming Season with1.5 Hectares Intercropping Farm

In line with the ARISE Agenda of the Akwa Ibom State Government, the Chairman of Etinan Local Government Area, Uko Umoh has begun cultivation of a 1.5 hectares’ farm within the premises of the LG Council Secretariat.

The Chairman, who flagged off the farming process on Wednesday, March, 27, 2024, noted that his policies and programmes are tailored towards replicating the ARISE Agenda components of Governor Umo Eno led administration in Etinan LGA.

Umoh described farming as “an in-thing for both young and old in a post-modern world”, adding that he is poised to encourage youths from the area to earn a living through farming.

He noted that apart from selling the farm produce from the 1.5 hectares’ land to generate revenue for the Council, it will also serve as a demonstration farm for people from different villages who may wish to acquire knowledge on modern farming skills.

“When I came into council, I made a tour of all the sectors to abreast myself with situations on ground and checked areas I can come in to add value.”

“Last week we added value in the health sector through free medical and surgical outreach, and today we are in agricultural sector with the cultivation of 1.5-hectares farm land.”
“We shall continue this way till we ensure all sectors are repositioned to work effectively.”

The Chairman thanked his Vice, Imaobong Michael, and the Director of Agriculture, Emmanuel Isong, for their commitment in seeing to the actualization of this dream.

Also speaking, the Director of Agriculture, Etinan LGA, Emmanuel Isong appreciated the Council Chairman for buying into the vision of making Etinan an agricultural hub in the State.

He noted that cassava, maize, vegetables including okra and cucumber, among other things will be cultivated in the farm.

“Our intention is to sell the farm produce to buyers at a reduced rate to address the issue of food scarcity and high cost of food stuff.”

“We will also use the farm to train and retrain community members in order to acquaint them with modern skills of farming.
“When we harvest all what we are going to plant in that land, I can assure you the projected revenue will run into millions.”
