Frantic to fulfil his campaign promise, the Chairman of Bonny Local Government Area of Rivers State, Abinye Pepple has assured residents of the area that the fire station would be up and running within the first 100 days of his administration.
Pepple said this on Thursday, September 11, 2025 in an interview with Kristina Reports when he led officials of the administration on an inspection tour of the fire station along King Asimini Bypass (Berger Road) in Bonny, Rivers State.

“As you can see, the renovation exercise has commenced. We decided to live up to expectation to serve our people with every sense of responsibility and commitment. The grass cutting has commenced and from Monday you’ll see other things that will take shape.”
“We decided to make it a priority because it is a community service. By the grace of God, our initial promise that we will handle this remains. We’re going to deliver it in less than 100 days.

“The contractor that will handle the renovation of this fire station has the competence, has the capacity, and will deliver accordingly within record time. So, be rest assured that this project will be commissioned in the next 100 days in office.”
He informed that the draft bill for the byelaw establishing and integrating the Bonny Fire Station into the Bonny Utility Company (BUC) is being finalized, stating that the bill will be presented to the 10th Bonny Legislative Assembly in less than two weeks, adding that the lawmakers have committed to expedite action in passing it into law.

“As I speak to you, we are just doing the finishing touches on the bill. In less than 14 days, I will formally and officially present the executive bill to the Bonny Legislative Assembly. We are going to work assiduously hard to deliver our campaign promises.”
“The Bonny Fire Station and Emergency Response Bill of 2025 will be passed unhindered. Every lawmaker from Ward 1 to Ward 12 have already supported this initiative.”
“I’m sure that after the public hearing, Rivers people and Bonny people, in particular, will appreciate what we are doing. So, it will be passed unhindered; I can assure you.”
Also speaking, the Leader of the 10th Bonny Legislative Assembly, Kingsley Jumbo assured that he and his colleagues will accord the bill the urgent attention it deserves, asserting that the lawmakers are passionate about alleviating the challenge of incessant fire outbreaks.

“With all sense of responsibility and all sense of purpose, the Bonny 10th Legislative Assembly is eagerly waiting for the executive bill in respect to this illustrious project to kick off. Actually, we had a meeting today and it was part of our deliberation because we are passionate to ensure that this Bonny Fire Station works.”
“Even as we were on the inspection, I was speaking with my Deputy; I was emotional because I know the intention behind this project and till now, it’s not operational. It’s disturbing, and every patriotic citizen of Bonny Local Government should equally be concerned.”
“So, like I said in our inauguration and even during our campaign, I said the Bonny Local Government Legislative Council will give the executive every necessary impetus, every legislative framework to ensure that the Bonny Fire Station kicks off, even if it’s tomorrow.”
“So, be assured that we will surely support the executive. We are waiting for the bill. If the chairman brings the bill today, we go through it and give it every necessary legislative support and backup it needs to make it operational. So, we are only waiting for the executive to come to us.”
On her part, the Vice Chairman of Bonny LGA, Ibinyefagha Alabere expressed sadness over the incessant fire incidents in the area, lamenting that victims of one of the incident in Finima are still homeless as at now, assuring that every official of the administration will accord the Chairman the support he needs to get the fire station working.

“In line with what the Chairman has just said we’re also in support, and it’s so emotional seeing fire outbreaks. I know the one that happened in Finima near the water reservoir. It was really heartbreaking. So many people were homeless till today. So, I think with what my Chairman has brought up we all giving the support.”
So far, the administration from inception has taken definite steps to get the fire station operational. The Chairman, accompanied by his Vice, and other officials have engaged the management of the Bonny Utility Company to discuss the operationalization of the fire station, among other actions.
