President Bola Tinubu has appointed Dr. Basilia Igbokwe as the 9th Rector of the Federal Polytechnic, Nekede, Owerri, Imo State.

The appointment letter was conveyed in a letter with reference: PRES/84/EDU/7, dated 10th September, 2024, and signed by the Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Education, Dr. Nasir Sani-Gwarzo.

According to the letter, Dr Igbokwe, whose appointment takes effect from Tuesday, September 10, 2024, was officially presented to management and staff of the institution on Wednesday, September 11, 2024.

In accordance with the Polytechnic Act of 2019 (as amended), Dr. Igbokwe’s appointment is for a term of five years, and comes with all the benefits attached to the position of a Federal Polytechnic Rector in Nigeria.

With an impressive academic background, Dr. Igbokwe holds a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) and Master of Arts (MA) degrees in English Language from the University of Uyo, obtained in 2007 and 2004, respectively. She also holds a Bachelor of Arts (BA Hons) in English Language from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (1991) and a PGDE from the National Teachers Institute (NTI) in affiliation with Usman Danfodio University, Sokoto (2007).

In addition, she, who also holds a Certificate in Basic Computer Applications in 2007, and a National Certificate in Education (NCE) in Arts and Social Sciences in 2013, obtained her West African Senior School Certificate (WASSC) in 1986 and First School Leaving Certificate (FSLC) in 1980.

Dr. Igbokwe brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to her new role, and her appointment is expected to usher in a period of growth and innovation at the Federal Polytechnic Nekede.
