FG Commences Construction Of 250-Unit Civil Servants’ Estate In Abuja

The Federal Government has commenced construction of a 250-unit Renewed Hope Civil Service Estate for federal civil servants at Dukpa, Gwagwalada, in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

The groundbreaking ceremony was held on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, as part of efforts by the Federal Government to expand access to decent and affordable housing for public servants.

The project is expected to deliver 250 housing units within six months, according to the Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development.

Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Engr. Muttaqha Darma, said the initiative reflects President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to improving the welfare of Nigerian workers, particularly civil servants who play a central role in the functioning of government.

Darma noted that access to decent and affordable accommodation would help improve workers’ welfare, productivity and sense of security.

The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Shuaib Belgore, described the project as a targeted intervention designed to address the housing needs of federal civil servants.

He said a stable and decent home provides security for workers and their families while contributing to a more settled and productive workforce.

The estate is planned to comprise two- and three-bedroom bungalows, according to the Ministry’s project details. The Federal Ministry of Housing has also identified the site as Dukpa, Gwagwalada.

Belgore urged the contractors to ensure strict adherence to approved specifications, quality standards and the stipulated completion timeline.

He stressed that the government’s commitment must go beyond the groundbreaking ceremony and result in a completed estate that provides real benefits to its intended beneficiaries.

The project was also dedicated to the retiring Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Mrs. Didi Esther Walson-Jack, who described the initiative as a “dream come true” and expressed appreciation to the ministry for the gesture.

The development forms part of the Federal Government’s broader Renewed Hope housing initiatives aimed at addressing Nigeria’s housing challenges and improving access to affordable accommodation.

For federal civil servants in Abuja, the completion and transparent allocation of the 250 units will be key to determining the practical impact of the initiative on workers’ housing needs.
