Poised to fulfil his cardinal electioneering promise of fully operationalizing the Bonny Fire Station, the Chairman of Bonny Local Government Area, Abinye Pepple has met with the Bonny Utility Company (BUC) to chart ways of integrating the station into its service catalogue.
The Bonny Utility Company current manages the electricity distribution and water reticulation in Bonny Island.

A statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the Chairman, Wisdom Chapp-Jumbo said the meeting with the management of BUC) held on Wednesday, September 10, 2025 at the Local Government Council Secretariat, Bonny.
Speaking during the meeting, the Chairman emphasized his administration’s resolve to make the Fire Station functional as the community’s first line of response to frequent fire incidents.

He noted that the LG Council will also work with the Bonny Legislative Assembly to enact a law establishing and supporting the operations of the Fire Station.
“Integrating the Fire Station into BUC will guarantee efficient service delivery especially with constant water supply, even as we seek support from multinational companies operating in Bonny,” Amasenibo Pepple stated.
In a related move, the Council Chairman directed BUC to urgently submit the cost to repair all non-functional street lights across Bonny within the next 14 days.
He stressed that improved lighting will serve as a vital security measure, assuring that the Council will cover all necessary cost implications to achieve this goal.

Responding, the General Manager of BUC, Dominic Dung, commended the Chairman for his people-oriented initiatives.
He described the Fire Station as a critical service for Bonny and pledged BUC’s full cooperation, including the preparation of a comprehensive cost report on the street lighting initiative.
Present at the meeting were the Secretary to the Bonny Local Government; Tamunotonye Jumbo, and BUC’s Head of Electrical Department; Emmanuel Dan-Jumbo, and other members of the company’s management.

Across the whole gamut of his electioneering campaigns, Abinye Pepple, who contested as candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), kept reiterating his desire to prioritise, upon assuming office, the activation of all processes leading to the full operationalization of the Fire Station.
He emphasized the critical necessity of having the fire station fully functional, referencing the several fire outbreaks that have led to loss of lives, properties, and disruptions to the daily lives of residents of the area.
This meeting with the Bonny Utility Company (BUC) follows closely with his charge to the 10th Bonny Legislative Assembly to mainstream the emplacement of a legal framework for the full operationalization of the Fire Station, clearly demonstrating his strident commitment to walking his talk.
