FRSC Holds Enlightenment Programs to Mark 2024 World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Crash Victims
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) says the public enlightenment programmes it held to sensitize various categories of road users on good road safety attitudes is a demonstration of the premium it places on the safety of the commuting public in Bonny Local Government Area of Rivers State.
FRSC’s Head of Operations in Bonny Unit Command, Udo James said this during activities to mark the 2024 World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims in Bonny, Rivers State.
The weeklong event that commenced on Sunday, November 17, 2024 with a Thanksgiving Mass at St. Raphael’s Catholic Church, Bonny, ended on Saturday, November 23, 2024 with a hospital visitation.
James, who is a Commandant of the Corps, and accompanied by Regular Marshals, Special Marshals and youth corps members, informed that during the weeklong event, there were public enlightenment programmes aimed at sensitizing the public on good road safety attitudes.
Public Relations Officer of the FRSC Bonny Unit Command, Chris Onwubiko told Kristina Reports that one of the public enlightenment programmes was organized in partnership with the project implementer of the Train 7 project of the Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas Limited (NLNG), the Saipem, Chiyoda and Daewoo Joint Venture (SCD JV).
CRC James advised the commuting public to take their safety very seriously and adhere to road traffic rules, especially, with the onset of the Yuletide season.
He equally advised relevant stakeholders to take responsibility for sensitizing under their jurisdiction and circle of influence on the need to prioritize safety on the roads, asserting that the safety of everyone is in the interest of the society.
The World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims is a global event that takes place on the third Sunday of November each year aimed at honouring those who have died or been injured in road traffic accidents, and to advocate for better support for victims and their families.
Endorsed by the United Nations in 2005, the event, which was started by RoadPeace, a United Kingdom based national charity for road crash victims, in 1993, is being promoted the European Federation of Road Traffic Victims (FEVR), International Road Victims’ Partnership (IRVP), and the Global Alliance of NGOs for Road Safety.
