The Chairman of Gokana Local Government Area, Confidence Deko, has assented to three bills passed by the Gokana 10th Legislative Assembly.
The bills were formally presented to the local government chairman by the Leader of the Legislative Assembly, John Barikor, during a ceremony at the council secretariat on Thursday, September 10, 2026.

Speaking after assenting to the bills, Chairman Deko commended the lawmakers for what he described as their commitment to effective legislation and good governance.
He said the laws were aimed at addressing issues affecting the wellbeing of residents and improving the administration of the local government.
Deko also stressed the need for continued cooperation between the Executive and Legislative arms of the council, noting that such collaboration was essential to delivering democratic dividends to the people of Gokana. The chairman further disclosed that the Executive arm would soon forward a bill to the Legislative Assembly for consideration.

Presenting the bills, Legislative Leader Barikor said they were among five bills that were subjected to a public hearing on July 2, 2026. According to him, inputs and submissions from residents were considered before the bills were passed by the Assembly.
The three bills assented to are the Gokana LGA Drug Abuse Prevention and Mental Health Support Bye-Law 2026, the Gokana LGA Prohibition of Unauthorised Scavenging and Vandalism of Public and Private Infrastructure Bye-Law 2026, and the Gokana LGA Internal Revenue Mobilization Committee (Establishment) Bye-Law 2026.

The assent ceremony was attended by the Deputy Leader, Chief Whip, Clerk and other members of the Gokana 10th Legislative Assembly, as well as the Head of Personnel Management, Azubuike Kinika.
