The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has urged Nigerian youths to stay away from political violence, digital thuggery and misinformation, and instead embrace leadership, innovation and responsible citizenship.
Disu made the call on Thursday, August 20, 2026, at the opening of the 3-day National Youth Leadership and Security Dialogue in Abuja.

The event, held from August 20 to 22, 2026, was themed “Different Contents, Common Aspiration.” It was organised to mark International Youth Day 2026 under the National Youth Security and Peacebuilding Initiative.
According to a statement by Force PRO, CSP Ani Iniedu, the dialogue brought together youth leaders, government officials, civil society groups and security stakeholders to discuss national security, civic participation, entrepreneurship, cybersecurity, innovation and mental health.
The IGP said no political ambition is worth sacrificing the future of any Nigerian youth. He charged participants to choose peace and nation-building over violence, hate and online manipulation.
“The Nigeria Police Force remains committed to protecting democratic participation, securing communities, and partnering with young people to build a safer and more peaceful society,” Disu stated.
He expressed optimism that the 3-day engagement would produce practical steps to strengthen youth participation, community safety and national peace.
The programme had in attendance representatives from government, development partners, the Police Officers’ Wives Association, the Police Community Relations Committee, and other stakeholders.
The event was focused on youth leadership, national security and development, with sessions on digital responsibility, civic engagement, entrepreneurship and mental health.
