The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has commenced the claims and objections in relation to the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) to provide eligible citizens the opportunity to be included in the voter registration process.
INEC’s Resident Electoral Commissioner for Rivers State, Professor Gabriel Yomere disclosed this on Monday, December 15, 2025 during a press conference held in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

Represented by the Administrative Secretary of INEC Rivers State, Dr. Angel Ebhodaghe, the REC announced that the CVR has commenced and has, so far, recorded a total of 99,885 voters.
He added that the statistics show an encouraging participation from citizens, maintaining that the exercise is a platform to scrutinize the register and eliminate errors that may be found overtime.
“This process is crucial to ensuring a credible and accurate Voters Register.”
Prof. Yomere encouraged the media platforms to support the Commission with circulating information relevant to the ongoing exercise, maintaining that the Media remains an indispensable partner in the development of the country’s democracy, as such must remain on guard to protect the Commission’s Policies and activities.

“We rely on you not only to inform the public of the Commission’s policies and activities, but to counter misinformation and prevent the spread of unverified reports regarding the display exercises.”
“The value of accuracy in shared information cannot be over-emphasized as this goes a long way in promoting the public’s confidence in the electoral process.”
The REC also responded to concerns bothering on commencement of phase 2 of the Continuous Voters Register exercise, clarifying that the first phase has been completed and the second phase is scheduled to end on April 17, 2025.

He further informed that the display period is statutory and cannot be extended while the issuance of temporary identity cards is still kept in view.
He said there are challenges which the Commission’s attention has been drawn to which includes incorrect entries, names of deceased persons still in the list, ineligible persons and other inaccuracies that have been observed, craving the indulgence of the Media to disseminate the information to the public to promote their civic responsibility.
