It was a sensational night of European football for Nigerian talent, as four stars played vital roles in guiding their respective clubs into the main stages of the UEFA Europa League and UEFA Conference League.
Yusuf Scores as Ferencvárosi Cruise in Europa League
In Budapest, 25-year-old winger Bamidele Yusuf put on a clinical display, scoring his second goal of the competition and third of the season to help Hungarian champions Ferencvárosi TC thrash 9-man Trabzonspor 4-0 at the Groupama Arena.
The Turkish side suffered an early blow when Ruslan Malinovsky received a straight red card in the 13th minute.
Ferencvárosi capitalised quickly through Callum O’Dowda’s 19th-minute opener, followed by Máriusz Corbu’s finish in the 54th minute.
Things went from bad to worse for Trabzonspor when Sidny Lopes Cabral picked up a second yellow card in the 57th minute.
Just two minutes later, Yusuf converted from the penalty spot to make it 3-0 before being substituted in the 70th minute.
Krisztián Lisztes rounded off the 4-0 win (5-0 aggregate), while fellow Nigerian Paul Onuachu featured as a second-half substitute for Trabzonspor.

Entering the pitch in the 89th minute, the former Sporting Lagos player needed just five minutes in extra time to produce a moment of individual brilliance, setting up Thomas Lehne Olsen for the 2-1 match-winner against Albanian champions KF Egnatia.
After falling behind to Eljon Sota’s first-half goal, Lillestrøm equalised through Sander Moen Foss late in regulation.
Akanji’s decisive extra-time assist sealed a 2-1 aggregate victory, punching Lillestrøm’s ticket to the Europa League phase.
Iheanacho Sparks Midtjylland’s Comeback Rout
Over in the UEFA Conference League, Stanley Iheanacho continued his red-hot form for FC Midtjylland.
After an early Martin Erlić own goal gave Croatian hosts Rijeka the lead, Iheanacho rose to the occasion in the 17th minute, heading home a Kjell Wätjen corner to level the score.
The 17th-minute strike was Iheanacho’s third goal since breaking into the starting XI.
Midtjylland dominated the second half with goals from Darío Osorio, Magnus Jensen, and substitute Gue-Sung Cho—who replaced Iheanacho in the 57th minute—to wrap up a 4-1 victory on the night and a 6-1 aggregate triumph.
Okeke Holds Firm in Jablonec’s Shootout Thriller
Rounding off the night, 24-year-old defensive midfielder Nelson Okeke helped FK Jablonec survive a frantic finish to eliminate Rangers F.C. on penalties.
Okeke entered the contest in the 86th minute to shore up the midfield, before coolly converting his spot-kick as the Czech side prevailed 4-3 in the penalty shootout to book their spot in the Conference League phase.
