Nigeria’s President, Bola Tinubu has named the nation’s first Arterial Road, N20 in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja after Nobel Laureate, Professor Wole Soyinka.

Tinubu, who named the newly constructed road while commissioning it on Tuesday, June 4, 2024 in the FCT Abuja, predicated his decision on the fact that Prof. Soyinka had brought the country fame, pride and international acclaim and as such deserves to be so honoured.

“He has brought Nigeria fame, pride and international acclaim. Thank you to the minister for thinking that way. We accept your recommendation on behalf of the people of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”

The president further noted while speaking at the inauguration that the completion of the Arterial Road N20, which runs from Northern Parkway to other northern expressways, shows his administration’s commitment to better the lives of Nigerians.

He added that this is just the beginning and there is more to come as the plan is to transform every part of the country, explaining that the road will ease traffic circulation around Mabusi, Katampe, Jahi and Kado through the sector centers.

“The completion of this strategic project underscores our dedication to building a robust and resilient infrastructure that meets the needs of the growing population and stimulates economic growth.”

“I am also aware that the project enabled the creation of employment opportunities for over 1500 Nigerians. This is commendable and serves as a credit to the Renewed Hope Agenda for creating job opportunities for our teeming youth.”

He further said that the completion of this project is in line with his administration’s plan to make the FCT a world-class city through improved infrastructure and sustainable development to ensure that the country stands tall amongst its equals, urging the States to replicate what is being done in the FCT in their various states.

“As we commission this road today, we must also recognize the broader vision it serves. This project is a critical component of our administration’s comprehensive plan ti transform the FCT into a world-class city.”

“I encourage other sub-nationals to take a cue from what is happening in the FCT and replicate them in their local communities.”
