Public Service Games Takes Centre Stage, PLWD Set to Participate
The 43rd Public Service Games is set to begin Today, November 27, 2024, in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, with approximately 10,000 athletes, officials, and dignitaries from the 36 states of the Federation and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) expected to participate.
The Public Service Games which will run its course till Thursday, December 5, 2024, is an annual sports event aimed at enhancing the physical well-being of workers and promoting sportsmanship in the Federal Public Service. This year’s event will feature several sports, including football, volleyball, tennis, table tennis, badminton, chess, and scrabble, with males and females competing in various categories.
In a noteworthy development, the Chairman of the Local Organising Committee (LOC), George Nwaeke, announced the introduction of two paralympic games, para-darts and para-tennis, to promote inclusivity, encourage and experiment, the participation from the Persons with Disability community.
Speaking to the media, Nwaeke, who is also the Head of Service, Rivers State Civil Service, reiterated one of the key purposes of the event which is to show that Rivers State is a very hospitable and peaceful state as he expressed the need for the competition to birth ambassador for Rivers State.
The competition will take place across four centers in Port Harcourt: Uniport Sports Complex, Port Harcourt Club, Basketball Court at 59 Niger Street, and Sharks Stadium, where the opening and closing ceremonies will be held.
