The Rivers State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a 17-year-old boy for the alleged sexual assault of a 13-year-old JSS 2 student of the Real Madrid Football Academy, located in Elekahia, Port Harcourt.
Kristina Reports learnt that the suspect was handed over to the police by the Rivers State Commissioner for Sports, Christopher Green, after a closed-door meeting involving the victim, the suspect, their parents, and the school management.

The meeting, which was called by the Commissioner, took place at the sports ministry’s office in Port Harcourt. It was during this meeting that the details of the incident were laid bare, and the decision was made to hand the matter over to the authorities for proper investigation.
Speaking with journalists, Uche Sampson, the elder brother of the alleged victim, explained that the incident occurred on October 22, 2025. He said his younger sister had gone outside her hostel room to pick up her clothes that were spread outside to dry when the suspect allegedly attacked her.
According to Uche, “My sister said the boy hit her from behind. She tried to defend herself, but he was stronger and overpowered her. She struggled and screamed, but by the time help came, it was already too late.”
He added that the family was heartbroken when they heard what happened. “It was a shock to us. You send your child to school to learn, not to come back with such trauma.” He remarked painfully.
The Commissioner of Sports, Christopher Green, was eulogized for handling the situation. Sources at the meeting said he approached the issue like a father and ensured that both families were heard before taking the right step — handing the suspect over to the Elekahia Police Division for investigation.
The victim’s family expressed gratitude to the Commissioner for his quick response and genuine concern. “He handled the situation the way a father would handle it,” said Mr. Sampson. “He didn’t try to cover anything. He was so concerned and showed so much care.”
As of the time of filing this report, the police at Elekahia Division have confirmed that the suspect is in custody and that investigation is ongoing.
A police source who pleaded anonymity said the matter will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further handling.
The Real Madrid Football Academy, which is one of the pride institutions of Rivers State, has not released an official statement yet, but parents and guardians have started expressing worries over the safety of their children in the school’s hostel facilities.
This sad event has sparked new conversations among parents, teachers, and government officials about the moral upbringing of young people and the need to strengthen security and mentorship in schools across the country.
While residents of Port Harcourt have also reacted to the incident, calling for justice and better security measures in schools. Some believe that while the boy’s age should be considered, the gravity of the offense cannot be overlooked.
In many African settings, especially in Nigeria, issues like this are often settled within them, but the recent move by the Commissioner to allow police investigation has been widely commended as a sign of progress, a shift from the culture of silence that usually surrounds such sensitive matters.
As the investigation continues, the public is hopeful that justice will be served, not only for the young victim but also as a warning to others that such acts carry serious consequences.
