The Rivers State Commissioner of Police, CP Olugbenga Adepoju, has recommended the dismissal of four police personnel over the death of a student, Anthony A. Obodo, during a police pursuit in Port Harcourt.
The affected officers are ASP Fabian Kpeanabari, Insp. Solomon Nwrogu, CPL Alfred Louis and PC Michael Ejokwu.
Briefing journalists on Wednesday September 2, 2026 at the Rivers State Police Command Headquarters, CP Adepoju explained that the incident occurred on August 27, 2026, when a patrol team from Agip Police Division attempted to stop a tinted Lexus vehicle which allegedly sped away, leading to a pursuit.
According to him, during the chase, CPL Alfred Louis allegedly opened fire at the vehicle, hitting the driver, Anthony Obodo, who was rushed to a hospital but was later pronounced dead.
The Commissioner said the officers involved were arrested and investigated, while Insp. Solomon Nwrogu, who reportedly absconded after the incident, was also declared wanted.
CP Adepoju said investigations established the culpability of the officers, leading to their orderly room trial and recommendation for dismissal from the Nigeria Police Force.
He added that the officers would subsequently be charged to court to face appropriate criminal charges, stressing that no police officer is above the law.
The Commissioner also condoled with the deceased’s family and assured the public that the Command would ensure justice is served.
