The Nigeria Police Force, Rivers State Command has extended the deadline for the enforcement of the ban on unauthorised tinted glasses on commercial vehicles to October 31, 2026.
The Command said the extension followed appeals from transport union leaders to give affected operators additional time to regularise their vehicles and comply with the directive.
In a statement issued on Wednesday September 23, 2026 by the Police Public Relations Officer, Agabe Blessing, the Command urged commercial vehicle operators to use the final grace period to remove unauthorised tinted glasses from their vehicles. It warned that from November 1, 2026, vehicles found violating the directive would be subjected to enforcement and sanctions in accordance with the law.
The Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Adepoju, directed all Area Commanders and Divisional Police Officers to ensure strict compliance with the directive and conduct thorough but lawful searches during enforcement operations, particularly where security concerns arise.
The Command also reiterated that commercial tricycles, popularly known as Keke, must not operate beyond 10:00 p.m., directing Area Commanders and DPOs to ensure strict enforcement of the restriction.
Meanwhile, the Police Command warned its personnel against using the enforcement exercise as an avenue for extortion or harassment of members of the public.
It said any police officer found engaging in extortion or abusing the enforcement process would face appropriate disciplinary action.
The Command called on transport operators to obey traffic regulations and cooperate with the Police in maintaining peace and security across Rivers State.
