Nigeria’s 1-1 draw against Zimbabwe has sparked intense scrutiny, with many questioning the team’s tactics after taking the lead. Coach Éric Chelle has shed light on this, revealing what he told his players after Victor Osimhen’s goal.
According to Chelle, he urged his team to continue pushing for more goals. “We tried to score lots of goals, and after our goal, I said to my players, ‘Continue to try to score another goal,'” Chelle explained.

However, Chelle also acknowledged that his team may have been fatigued, which affected their performance. “I think maybe we were a little tired,” he said.
Chelle emphasized the importance of analysing the goal and learning from their mistakes. “I think we need ten seconds to analyse this goal because I think we made a great first half,” he said. “If we make a short mistake, plus a short mistake, plus a short mistake, we bring this goal.” Despite the draw, Nigeria remains in the race for qualification, and Chelle will be looking to rectify their mistakes in upcoming matches.
