Abuja residents have raised concerns about being involuntarily reclassified from their current Bands to Band A electricity by the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC)

In an interview with Kristina Reports, some residents of Apo Resettlement complained that they have had too much light and are tired of it because this means that they now have to pay more for light.

According to Kingsley ‘I have had uninterrupted electricity since Sunday and so I have had to put off my appliances for like two days so that my bills will not increase. I am tired of the light; they should take it for some time please or they should take me back to my Band B’

Joyce Etim who lives in the same environment also noted that there has been a lot of power in the area and as much as it is nice, it has caused her to spend a lot more on power that she does not really need.

‘I know that we always talk about wanting an uninterrupted power supply but this one is too much. Maybe if they give us uninterrupted power at a cheaper rate that would be a lot better for us because buying a unit of light at N209.5 Kilowatts (KWh) per hour is not good enough.

Meanwhile, some residents at Lugbe and Gwarimpa have complained that despite being involuntarily moved to Band A, they have not seen as much light as they should.

According to Sharon James ‘this has been a very trying time for me, no seriously, because I subscribed to my meter and I noticed that they were giving me Band A rates, even though I was unhappy that AEDC moved me to Band A without telling me.”

“I was grateful that at least, I will be seeing light more often but that has not been the case. The whole of yesterday I had light for only about four hours and that is not how Band A light should be.”

“AEDC should do better, either take me back to Band B or give light proportionate to the amount of money that I pay.”
