As the countdown to the November 8, 2025, Anambra Governorship Election intensifies, the State Police Command has recorded a major breakthrough in its crackdown on political thuggery and cult-related violence.
In a decisive operation, police operatives arrested a notorious suspected cultist and political thug, identified as Onyeaka Odogwu, popularly known as Red Angel, aged 29. The arrest was made on October 24, 2025, at about 11:30 a.m., following an intelligence-led raid by operatives of the Special Anti-Cult Squad (SPACS) in Enugu-Ukwu.

During the operation, the police recovered two pump-action guns, two English double-barrel guns, three live cartridges, red cult regalia, and several caps bearing the insignia of the Vikings Confraternity.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, Tochukwu Ikenga, the suspect confessed during interrogation to being a member of the Vikings Confraternity and admitted involvement in political thuggery.
“Following his confession, the suspect, in the early hours of today, October 26, 2025, led SPACS operatives to their armoury at Omor, where the aforementioned exhibits were recovered,” Ikenga stated.
He added that all the recovered items have been documented as evidence, while investigations are ongoing to arrest other members of the gang and their political sponsors.
Reaffirming the Command’s commitment to maintaining peace and order before, during, and after the election, the Commissioner of Police, Ikioye Orutugu vowed that the police would not allow “cult groups, armed gangs, or political thugs to threaten the peace and electoral stability of the state.”
Orutugu further urged parents, community leaders, and youth groups to caution young people against being lured into cultism or politically motivated violence.
He assured residents of enhanced security deployment across all Local Government Areas in the state to ensure a peaceful, credible, and violence-free election.
