Attaining the Golden Age Plus One, From Lecture Room to Life Changing Impacts: Dr Fubara Dan-Jumbo’s Story

From the lecture halls of Coventry University, Coventry, United Kingdom, where he was a Research Assistant, Fubara Dan-Jumbo, PhD made a foray into business back in Nigeria and almost 20 years later, job opportunities, career development vistas and sustainable social impacts have continued to transform lives, homes and circumstances .

He chased, secured and executed diverse contracts from oil and gas firms across Nigeria and eventually grew his company to what is now known as DavFub Group of Companies with The Gibs Hotel, Casachem and B ‘n’ B Hotel in Bonny as subsidiaries.

These business ventures cover a range of deliverables including engineering, procurement and construction services, chemical processing, warehousing and supplies, hospitality and logistics supplies. With over 1,000 workers across the various subsidiaries, the business magnate has successfully created opportunities for Nigerians from diverse regions.

Dr. Fubara Dan-Jumbo, who is the Chief Executive Officer of The Gibs Hotel, a high-profile hotel located in the high-brow GRA axis of Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital, is a Fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (FNSE), and Chairman, Board of Directors of DavFub Group.

He is known for his leadership in business and philanthropic efforts, especially in STEM education through the Gibson Dan-Jumbo Foundation, which awards scholarships and donates books to students. He’s also recognized for his support of Bonny Kingdom and community development.

Dr. Dan-Jumbo was conferred with the prestigious Fellowship of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (FNSE) in 2024 for his expertise, leadership, and dedication to mentoring youth and national development.

He is also a respected figure in his home Bonny Kingdom, where he is celebrated as a worthy ambassador and supporter of local initiatives. He is also regarded as a promoter of national unity, especially during independence celebrations, emphasizing collective progress.

Since its establishment in 2023, The Gibs Hotel has benefitted from Dr Fubara Dan-Jumbo’s business acumen, leadership qualities and understanding of the underpinnings of the hospitality industry. The Gibs Hotel Limited under his watch has continued to offer a charming retreat with a daily manager’s reception, coffee shop, and indoor pool. Guests at the Hotel can connect to in-room WiFi, unwind at the bar or restaurant, and take advantage of laundry facilities. Previous guests have praised this hotel for its warm hospitality.

Philanthropy is like a hobby to him, having imbibed it from his late father, Elder Gibson Dan-Jumbo, who during his lifetime spent considerable amount of funds to sponsor young people in education, empower many to start businesses and cater to orphans, widows and even widowers.

Dr Dan-Jumbo has sustained his father’s legacies through multiple philanthropic initiatives such as the G30 Ibani Voice annual King/Queen of Mathematics Contest, Outreach to the Elderly, Donation of Mathematics textbooks to secondary schools, Mathematics Quiz in secondary schools, and support to widows and other less privileged persons.

Even as he turns 51 years today, as he has done over time, he keeps reiterating his devotion to God Almighty, saying his life’s principles are founded on his belief in God. He always exudes compassion, discipline, humility and forthrightness in his dealings. His sense of patriotism remains profound as he always expresses his belief that Nigeria will be better.
