Some beneficiaries of the Free Surgical Outreach organized by the Diriwari Tobin Foundation have praised the Foundation for embarking on the initiative, saying it is a noble gesture.
In separate interview with Kristina Reports, the beneficiaries spoke glowingly of the intervention they have received through the outreach, noting that they feel better now after the harrowing experiences they have had with fibroid.
The two-day outreach, which held at the Zonal Hospital, Bonny, had doctors from the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital, Alakahia, and other medical experts from the NLNG RA Hospital, who volunteered to assist with the surgeries.
One of the beneficiaries, Blessing Uranta told Kristina Reports that she heard of the outreach through acquaintances and registered, saying that the surgery went smoothly and she is now back to normal, noting that it was an excruciating experience for her before the operation.
On her part, another beneficiary, Chidiebere, who hails from Imo State, in a chat with Kristina Reports, said she had suffered “having fibroid for years even when I was pregnant with my first child”.
“I went for a scan because it was disturbing me and they said I have fibroid that is there that has been disturbing me. It was very uncomfortable even when having sex with my husband.”
“I saw it online, even when they went for rally. They told us where and where to register, which health centre to go to. That was how it started. It was yesterday that I did the operation and it was successful. “
“I bless the name of the Lord for that. I am very well and healthier now. I am fine.”
“Truly, words are not enough to express how I feel and what I want to tell them. They will never lack anything for this kind of thing they have done for us. God will bless them.”
Also, Success Allison, another beneficiary told Kristina Reports that her condition got so bad that people were asking her to test for HIV, expressing her relief that after the operation, which described as successful, she is now feeling better.
“What brought me here is this fibroid operation. So, when I got to know about it, it was this my girlfriend that told me that she saw it in social media. After some two weeks ago, my elder in the church told me that he saw it in one other church that he went to. I was very happy.”
“Before now, anything I eat does not show in my body. I was a girl that used to have a body but everything now changed. Some people even started saying I should run HIV test if I have HIV. So, I was really tired, every time I think about it and the money was not there.”
“So, when I got to the hospital, they did all the things they had to do for me. The operation was very successful. Everything went well.”
“All of us that came for it all of us are very happy everything went well. I’m ready happy. I don’t know how to express my happiness (breaks down in tears).”
“I pray that God almighty with continue to bless the organizer. As many as they are that have done this good thing for us, I say may God bless them and continue to keep them safe.”
The organizers, the Diriwari Tobin Foundation said the outreach was aimed at ameliorating the plight of sufferers who could not afford the cost of having such cost-intensive surgeries, noting that corporate posture of the foundation focuses on improving lives and assuaging the sufferings of the less privileged.
One of the Directors of the Foundation, Franklyn Tobin attributed the motivation for the social impacts initiatives to divine love, stressing that “it is the love of God in our hearts that pushed us here. I mean having benefited immensely from the mercies of God, there is no other better way to give back than to also see that you touch the lives of your fellow mankind”.
“So, this is a way of giving back to the society and it is in the memory and keeping the legacy of our later father, Diriwari Gentle Tobin, and so, we felt this is what we could do also to impact our society.”
“At the Diriwari Tobin Foundation, we focus on Sports, Medicals, Education, and, of course, the Environment. So, these are the four areas we also look at, and this we have been doing over the years. Earlier this year, we were able to support with oxygen and other accessories that goes with it in caring for emergency situations at the Finima Health Center.”
