He said the aim of increasing the prize money by 100% is to amplify the passion for academic excellence and mastery of Mathematics among secondary school students.

He also announced that the 2024 edition will hold from Tuesday, November 26, 2024 while the Grand Finale will hold on Friday, November 29, 2024 at the Queen Kambassa Hall, Bonny, Rivers State

“We’re reinforcing what we set out to do, not just to organize competitions but incentivize scholarship among young people, particularly in Mathematics. We want to make it competitive and rewarding in a sustainable way.”

“So far, we’ve seen the winners of previous editions go on to greater exploits, furthering their education nad being more studious. We want to encourage this trend amongst young people, that’s why we’re doubling the amount, bringing it to N2 million for the winner of this year’s edition.”

He disclosed that this year’s edition is significant as it coincides with his 50th birthday and his mother’s 75th birthday anniversaries, thus he is excited to celebrate it by adding greater value to society by doubling the prize amount.

“This is significant to me because this is my 50th birthday and my mom’s 75th birthday; and what better way to celebrate it than to add greater value to society, by impacting the lives of the upcoming generation and setting them up for success and the future?”

According to Dr. Dan-Jumbo, “the competition will mark its 10th anniversary by 2025, thus the plan for the 10th year will be to have the winner context with other schools in Rivers State”.

“Today, we have published “Make Yourself A Mathematician For Primary Schools”, “Make Yourself A Mathematician For Junior Secondary Schools”, “Make Yourself A Mathematician For Senior Secondary Schools”, and “Make Yourself A Physicist For Senior Schools”.

He added that the Biology and Chemistry versions of the books are already 90% complete and will be available soonest.

“The passion is not only get the students to compete but also to work hard, while we, the organizers work to provide them with educational resource materials that help them study with ease, that is the overall goal.”

Also speaking, Secretary General of G30 Ibani Voice, Godswill Hart told Kristina Reports that “the transparency and integrity of the King/Queen of Mathematics Contest has been tested and confirmed by examination bodies such as the West African Examination Council (WAEC) and Joint Admissions and Matriculations Board (JAMB).

“The transparency and integrity of our quiz examination and the emergence of the winner has been tested and confirmed by other platforms and examination bodies like WAEC and JAMB.”

“For instance, the winner of the 1st edition, Fubara Omubo is a qualified Electrical Engineer, 2nd edition winner, Eno Emelda, is on 4.6 CGPA Electrical Engineering, while the 3rd edition winner, Master Nelson Bluejack got the highest score in UTME last year in Bonny with 98 percent in Mathematics.”

“Our current winner in the 4th edition and reigning Queen of Mathematics, Jumbo Ivan Tamunobelema, who is our ambassador, emerged the best in UTME in Rivers State this year.”

With this track record of excellence, Kristina Reports checks indicate a high acceptability of the competition amongst parents, teachers, students, schools and other stakeholders in Bonny LGA and in Rivers State.
