Private chef Onyekachi Aguguo, popularly known as Chef K, has opened up about his journey in the culinary world, stressing that cooking is a passion that knows no gender.

In an exclusive interview with Kristina Reports, the Imo-born chef, who was raised in Kano State, revealed that his love for cooking started at a young age.

“I started cooking at a tender age where I watched my mom cook and this made me pick interest in cooking,” he said.

Chef K, who has been working professionally for over ten years, runs his own kitchen and operates a 24/7 food delivery service.

He described his first cooking job, a wedding, as challenging, but one he successfully pulled through.

Speaking on his early influence, Chef K said, “Honestly, I learnt from Chef Julius at Imo Concord Hotels and from my mom also.”

When asked what made him fall in love with cooking, Chef K pointed to self-inspiration.

“I inspired myself to be honest,” he shared.

Addressing the common belief that cooking is for women, he responded strongly: “That narrative is totally wrong.”

“Cooking is a passion regardless of male or female.”

“If it’s not there, then it’s not there.”

“My passion for cooking has always been there.”

Chef K is proud of his roots in local dishes, though he occasionally prepares intercontinental meals.

His signature dish? “Oh my my, my CHEF K SPECIAL ASUN RICE,” he said with pride.

While many aspects of his work are enjoyable, one part remains frustrating. “Dispatching my meals, these dispatchers can make you run mad.”

“That is the only challenge for me,” he confessed.

He trains and mentors younger chefs and dreams of owning restaurants across the world.

“To own a big restaurant across the globe,” he said, when asked about his future goals.

His advice to aspiring chefs is clear and encouraging: “Chase that dream.”

“Focus, Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. Cooking is fun and I’m a witness.”
