Motorists in Abuja are rushing to MRS filling stations following a significant drop in fuel prices, providing much-needed relief amid the recent surge in petrol costs.

A survey of filling stations across the Federal Capital Territory on Wednesday revealed that MRS is selling petrol at a lower rate compared to other major marketers. While most stations still list prices between ₦970 and ₦990 per litre, MRS outlets are dispensing fuel at ₦935 to ₦945 per litre.

The price reduction has triggered a surge in demand, with long queues forming as drivers and commercial transport operators rush to take advantage of the lower rates.

In an interview with Kristina Reports, residents expressed happiness at the new development.

“I haven’t seen fuel this cheap in weeks,” said Suleiman Abubakar, a motorist seen at the MRS station along Lugbe Airport Road. “Other stations are still selling at high prices, so as soon as I heard about this, I came straight here.”

Another motorist, Grace Nwankwo, hopes that more fuel marketers will follow MRS’s lead. “If one company can lower prices, others should too. The cost of transportation is hitting everyone hard,” she said.

MRS’s price adjustment follows a recent announcement by Dangote Refinery, which stated that it would sell petrol at a reduced rate in celebration of Ramadan.

The refinery, which supplies MRS, confirmed last week that this move is part of an effort to ease the financial burden on Nigerians during the holy month.

With this development, many consumers are hopeful that the lower prices will continue beyond Ramadan, bringing further relief in the face of rising living costs.
