A glimmer of hope appeared in the horizon for Model Primary School, Bonny in Bonny Local Government Area of Rivers State as the Chairman, Anengi Claude-Wilcox took a high-powered delegation from the Rivers State Government on an inspection of the dilapidated building.
A statement by the Special Assistant on Media to the Bonny LGA Chairman, Clement Longjohn, disclosed that the State Commissioner for Education, Dr Chinedum Chukwuma led the delegation which visited the beleaguered school on Tuesday, January 21, 2025 in Bonny, Rivers State.
The Bonny LGA Chairman also took the Education Commissioner and his entourage on an inspection of the abandoned Bonny National Grammar School (BNGS) and the Local Government Industrial Unit (LGIU).
The visit was aimed at having an on-the-spot assessment of the three educational facilities with a view to highlighting the extent of possible intervention by the Governor Siminalayi Fubara administration in the State.
Aside the Commissioner’s entourage, the Bonny LGA Chief Executive was accompanied by the Vice Chairman; Omoni Longjohn, Chief Whip of the Bonny Legislative Assembly; Edmond Fombo, Secretary to the Bonny Local Government; John Gabriel-Pepple, and Supervisor for Education; Ruth Hart, amongst others.
Tuesday, January 21, 2024. Checks by Kristina Reports indicate that the Model Primary School was among the schools reconstructed under the Rotimi Amaechi administration but was allegedly abandoned by the contractor after 100% mobilization.
Unconfirmed sources told Kristina Reports that the said contractor is a former Caretaker Committee Chairman of Bonny LGA and also Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the area.
Pupils of the school have since 2015 being stranded and learning under abject conditions at an uncompleted building within the premises of Government School, Bonny.
One of the teachers in the school, who pleaded anonymity, appealed to the State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara to come to the aid of the stranded children and rehabilitate their school so they could go back after many years and learn in a conducive environment.
