Two years have passed since the departure of a patriarch, Amaopusenibo Idamiebi George Claude-Wilcox, a distinguished Media Personality and Administrator who lived a full life of 87 years (June 24, 1936 – February 13, 2023). His absence is deeply felt by his immediate and extended families, the Bonny Kingdom, and society at large. We remember and celebrate his noble qualities and remarkable achievements.

Late Amaopusenibo Idamiebi George Claude-Wilcox was a man of great distinction. His contributions to the media industry left an indelible mark, and his clear diction and personal style captivated and inspired many. He was not only a professional but also a role model, earning numerous honours and awards throughout his exceptional career.

Late Amaopusenibo Idamiebi George Claude-Wilcox had an exceptionally distinguished career. A veteran broadcaster and seasoned administrator, on returning to Nigeria in 1973, he took up an appointment in the Ministry of Information, Port Harcourt where he rose through the ranks to become Director of Programmes. He later became the General Manager of the Television Station before leaving in 1979. Interestingly, his achievements at the Station are still very visible till date.

It is on record that Late Amaopusenibo Idamiebi George Claude-Wilcox had the ample opportunity to work for the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), but he opted to serve as Executive Secretary of the Finima Relocation Committee, a body that facilitated the relocation of Finima, and paved the way for the construction of Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG) Plants. He was later redeployed to Petrochemicals where he retired honourably after years of meritorious service. Until his death, Late Amaopusenibo Idamiebi George Claude-Wilcox was the Chairman of the Board of Bonny Utility Company (BUC).

His family remembers him as a loving and supportive figure. The void left by his passing remains, with cherished memories serving as a constant reminder of his presence in their lives. His guidance, wisdom, and unflinching love shaped their lives in profound ways, and his absence is a daily reminder of the irreplaceable bond they shared.

The Bonny Kingdom mourns the loss of a dedicated son. Late Idamiebi George Claude-Wilcox served his community with distinction, earning the title of Amaopusenibo of Ancient Grand Bonny Kingdom, which was an acknowledgement and recognition of his credible service to Bonny Kingdom. His contributions to the kingdom’s progress and development will forever be remembered and cherished.

Society at large remembers Late Amaopusenibo Idamiebi George Claude-Wilcox as a media icon and a voice of reason. His work in journalism and public relations impacted countless lives, and his commitment to excellence set a high standard for others to follow. His influence extended beyond his profession, as he was a member of several professional organizations, both locally and internationally.
