LG Chairman Launches N100m Undergraduate Scholarship, Targets 1,000 Bonny Students to Receive N100k

In fulfilment of his campaign promise to prioritize Education, the Chairman of Bonny Local Government Area, Abinye Pepple has approved a N100million Undergraduate Scholarship Fund aimed at supporting 1,000 students of Bonny origin currently enrolled in public tertiary institutions across Nigeria.
Pepple announced this on Friday, November 21, 2025 while unveiling the fund in his office in Bonny, Rivers State.

He also formally handed over the scholarship forms to the President of the National Union of Bonny Students (NUBS), Precious Jumbo, who was accompanied by his Vice, Nengi Pieterson, and other student union leaders.
He further announced that each beneficiary will receive N100,000 to assist with tuition and related academic expenses, provided they present valid proof of admission into any public tertiary institution in the country.
“As a responsible government, it is our priority to ensure the welfare of our students, and cushion the burden on parents” he added

The Bonny LG chief executive noted that the scholarship program is a fulfillment of his administration’s promise to the student community, complementing the existing bursary scheme of N20,000 already enjoyed by 1,049 Bonny students.
He averred that renovation works at the NUBS Secretariat along King Asimini Bypass are progressing rapidly and will be completed ahead of the Union’s forthcoming Annual Convention.
In his remarks, the NUBS President, Precious Jumbo expressed profound appreciation to the Chairman for this extraordinary intervention and for the continuous support extended to students of Bonny origin. He pledged the support of the students at all times for his administration.

In attendance at the meeting were the Secretary to the Bonny Local Government; Tamunotonye Jumbo, Chief of Staff to the Bonny LGA Chairman; Soparagha Jumbo, Supervisor for Education; Sofiri Pepple, and the Senior Special Assistant on Student Affairs to the Chairman; Godswill Jumbo, amongst others.
