Igbozuruike Wisdom Chukwuka, a young and promising Afrobeat artist, believes music is not just a profession but a calling.

The 21-year-old singer from Umundom, Umuimeka Olaukwu Autonomous Community, Oforola, in Owerri West Local Government Area of Imo State, is determined to make his mark in the industry.

“Nothing motivated me to do music.”

“I think it’s a calling.”

” Music is in me,” he said.

“Though I keep pushing when I see the up stars, that’s what I will say motivated me.”

“But truly, music is in me too.”

For Chukwuka, creating music comes naturally.

“I love music a lot, so I do sing every time, and at times I might be doing something, and I catch up some lyrics.”

“So, I don’t find it difficult to create music, to write songs.”

With seven songs already to his name, including Love You Die, Temper, Iron Man, Drive You, Below, Billionaire, Jealousy, and Pray for Me, he considers Love You Die his best work so far.

“That’s where I thought I brought out my best to write,” he revealed.

Sharing a freestyle of the song, he sang:

“Many fine girls but na you I like, I swear to God you are my beans and rice, If you be my love I no go cheat and lie, Chidinma biko be my wife, without you I fit fall and die, Benz, Gucci, Versace for you walahi, omo girl na you wey dey blow my mind, Na you be dey bike I want to ride, yeah! I love you die oh, I mean I no fit lie oh, this your love dey sweet me die oh, no leave me for another guy oh.”

He revealed that Love You Die was inspired by Chidinma, a girl he admired since junior secondary school.

“That was my secondary school mate.”

I met her at Ihiagwa,” he said.

“When I was in JSS1, I had been trying to be in a relationship with the girl till SS2.”

“So, the girl didn’t agree or allow me to, till we got to SS2.”

“So, I decided to dedicate the song to her.”

His biggest challenge as an artist is financial support.

“I have challenges, yeah.”

“Number one is capital, let me say financial help.”

“So, I have no one to help me—money for studio, promotions.”

“All these stuffs.”

“But another side of it, people do say they have challenges based on making music or writing lyrics.”

“I don’t have problems with those ones, it’s just who to promote me, push me to the world.”

“That’s it, That’s the challenge I’m having.”

Despite reaching out to some artists for support, he has faced disappointments.

“Yes, I have met some people, but they are not popular like that.”

“But I think with their help, I can go a little bit far.”

“But after all their promises, when time comes to help me, they will all disappoint.”

Hoping to gain recognition, he has also reached out to superstars.

“Yes, I do make some freestyles, then after making, I share to them.”

“Then show them my work, yeah, I have reached out to them, not once, not twice.”

Unfortunately, he is yet to receive a response.

“No, they haven’t responded to me yet.”

For those looking to enter the music industry, he has a word of advice: “Like an upcoming artist, you should always dedicate yourself to your work.”

“Know what you want.”

“Many people do music because of money, no! You shouldn’t do that.”

“Just dedicate yourself, be hardworking, always pray to God.”

“Stay positive in everything you are doing, and always make your sound to be good.”

“And when you are writing, even your lyrics too should have meaning so that maybe one day, no one knows.”

“Just be hardworking and know what you want and what you are doing. That’s it.”

With his passion and determination, Igbozuruike Wisdom Chukwuka is on a journey to carve out a space for himself in the Afrobeat scene.
