A non-govermental Organisation dedicated to advocacy and youth education continued its annual tradition of spreading love and awareness by engaging schools in Nekede, Imo State on Valentine’s Day.

The NGO known as Christy Agim Initiative (CAI) led this year’s campaign, reinforcing the true essence of the celebration and educating students on the values of love, kindness, and respect.

Launched three years ago as “Valentine Special with Aunty Christy”, the initiative has consistently worked to correct misconceptions about Valentine’s Day, particularly among young students.

Speaking in an exclusive interview, the founder of CAI, Christy Agim, passionately reiterated the mission of the initiative.

“We are a voice for the voiceless. Our aim is to educate children on the real meaning of Valentine’s Day and dispel common misconceptions. It is not just about exchanging gifts or romantic gestures but about expressing genuine love, kindness, and respect toward others”.

She expressed concern over the misinterpretation of the occasion, particularly among students living in university environments.

“Many young people, especially those in areas with higher institutions like the Federal Polytechnic Nekede, can easily be misled. Without proper education on what Valentine’s Day truly represents, they may associate it with inappropriate activities”.

Christy Agim further highlighted the core goals of the initiative, which include advocating for girls’ rights, educating them on sexual purity and hygiene, supporting marginalized children, and empowering young people to become change-makers.

“Our focus extends beyond girls. We also engage boys because holistic education is key. By grooming both genders, we help shape a balanced society”.

The campaign resonated deeply with students and educators. Ibe Sandra, a CAI team member, expressed her excitement about the impact of the program.

“I’m very happy and proud to be part of this initiative, which has helped educate young students on the true meaning of Valentine’s Day. It’s about love, kindness, peace, and sharing with one another”.

Students from Brilliant Giant Model School were appreciative of the awareness program.

“We now understand that Valentine’s Day is not about romance or inappropriate behavior but about genuine love and kindness,” said Ihechukwumara Dorathy, a student at the school.

A teacher from the institution, Kelechi also commended the initiative for enlightening the students.

“We are grateful for this awareness campaign. It has provided clarity and valuable lessons for our students on what Valentine’s Day truly means. Thank you to the entire team for their efforts.”

Through such campaigns, the NGO continues to make a meaningful impact, guiding young minds toward positive values and ensuring they embrace love in its purest form.
