Amidst the visa issues of 7 US-based Nigerian athletes, which led to talks of withdrawal from the World Athletics Relays entirely, the official World Athletics website, suggests that Nigeria will participate in two events at the World Relays in Guangzhou: the Mixed 4x100m and Mixed 4x400m.
Team Nigeria finally secured visas for the 2025 World Relays yesterday, May 8, 2025, but due to the urgent travel arrangements caused by the visa approval delay, the athletes are expected to compete just two hours after landing.
Recall that Nigeria was initially set to compete in four events at the upcoming World Athletics Relays scheduled to take place in Guangzhou, China from May 10 to 11, 2025: men’s 4x100m relay, women’s 4x100m relay, 4x400m mixed relay, and the newly introduced 4x100m mixed relay.
However, as of the time of this report, Team Nigeria has not been recorded in the start list for two events – the Men’s and Women’s 4x100m Relay.
The Athletes who would participate are yet to be confirmed, but here are the initially listed athletes for the said events:
For the 4x400m mixed relay, the team consists of Chidi Okezie, Ifeanyin Ojeli, Samson Nathaniel, George Patience Okon, Praise Idamadudu, and Omolara Ogunmakinju. The 4x100m mixed relay team will be selected from six athletes: Favour Ashe, Alaba Akintola, Udodi Onwuzurike, Rosemary Chukwuma, Favour Ofili, and Success Umukoro.
