Investors across the globe have been called upon to tap into the vast opportunities available in Nigeria’s energy sector.

Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO) of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd.), Bashir Ojulari made this call during an interactive session with NBC’s Hala Gorani at the Energy Talk segment of the 2025 Gastech Exhibition & Conference, currently holding in Milan, Italy.

A press release on Tuesday, September 9, 2025 by the company’s Chief Corporate Communications Officer, Andy Odeh, disclosed that the NNPC Ltd. GCEO also commended President Bola Tinubu for improving Nigeria’s investment climate.

According to the statement, Ojulari said the current administration led President Tinubu has positioned the country as the preferred energy investment destination in Africa.

He noted that the new NNPC Ltd. Management is focused on achieving set targets and delivering value to shareholders.

The GCEO explained that while investors are already venturing into gas-based industries such as petrochemicals and methanol plants, more capital inflows are needed to develop infrastructure that will support the Federal Government’s plan to power Nigeria’s transportation sector with Compressed Natural Gas (CNG).

He added that Nigeria’s crude oil assets also hold significant potential, with over 200 undeveloped oil fields and vast reservoirs capable of raising production above the current 1.7 million barrels per day.

Ojulari further highlighted ongoing efforts to attract investors, including NNPC Ltd.’s investments in carbon capture, energy efficiency, and gas-flare reduction technologies, as well as progress on key infrastructure projects like the Ajaokuta-Kaduna-Kano (AKK) Gas Pipeline and the NLNG Train 7 Project.

He stressed that Nigeria’s energy transition strategy is geared towards eradicating energy poverty through increased investments in gas for industrialisation and Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) as domestic cooking fuel for millions of Africans lacking access to clean energy.

The statement noted that Gastech 2025 is hosting over 50,000 professionals and 1,000 exhibitors from 150 countries, making it the world’s leading annual gas conference where global energy leaders discuss the future of the industry.
