The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) says it rescued three passengers and several boats from sea pirates along the Bonny River on Sunday, June 8, 2025.
Public Relations Officer of the Rivers State Police Command, Grace Iringe-Koko confirmed this over the telephone with Kristina Reports in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

According to the police, the incident took place at approximately latitude 4.549217 and longitude 7.164728 at about 13:50hours on Sunday, June 8, 2025.
The passengers were traveling from Port Harcourt enroute Bonny Island aboard an outboard engine powered boat when they were accosted adjacent to Zion Fishing Port close to Yellow Platform along the Bonny River.
Kristina Reports learnt that their boat alongside others were being diverted by the sea pirates into a nearby creek when the police gunboat arrived and salvaged the situation.

The Police said a gunboat was deployed from Bonny to the scene of the incident upon receiving a tip off from a boat driver but upon sighting the Police operatives, the hoodlums abandoned their victims and escaped into the mangrove forest.
“At about 13:50hrs today, on a tip off by a boat driver conveying passengers from Port Harcourt enroute Bonny Island, the drivers reported that some hoodlums are diverting boats at Zion Fishing Port, close to Yellow Platform, along Bonny/Onne River.”
“On receipt of the information, we immediately deployed a gunboat to the scene; on sighting the gunboat, the sea pirates abandoned one W19 speed boat inscribed “David Marine” powered by 115hp Yamaha engine with three already kidnapped occupants onboard whose names are: John Sunday, ‘m’, age 25 years, Nnema Uriah, ‘m’, 25 years, and Godwin Richard, ‘m’, 18 years, all from Andoni LGA of Rivers State.
“Our men were able to savage victims’ boat and also foil attempts on other boats.”
Recall that the State Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Adepoju, had promised during his last visit to Bonny that security agencies are committed to ending sea pirate attacks and kidnappings on waterways in the State.
