Policeman Who Shot Killed Omagwa Indigene in Detention Already – Nigeria Police Says, as CP Appeals for Calm

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has appealed to the people of Omagwa Community in Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State to remain calm as the policeman who allegedly shot and killed one of their kinsmen has already been arrested and detained.
This appeal is coming in reaction to a protest by the Omagwa Community on Sunday, February 9, 2025 after a policeman from Omagwa Division allegedly shot and killed a member of the community, Bright Chikuma Egbule.
Public Relations Officer of the Rivers State Police Command, Grace Iringe-Koko said the Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Adepoju is on top of the situation, informing that normalcy has now been restored in the community.
SP Iringe-Koko said adequate security is present on the ground to prevent any breach of peace and that the remains of the deceased has been deposited at the morgue while the police officer involved has been detained and investigation commenced.
She extended the condolences of the Command to the family of the demised young man, assuring that justice would be served.
There was spontaneous uproar in Omagwa Community in Ikwerre LGA of Rivers State on Sunday, February 9, 2025 when a policeman from Omagwa Division allegedly shot and killed a member of the community.
The community people instantly blocked the Port Harcourt-Owerri Road with the corpse of one of the deceased.
